Products Designed for Efficiency
ASUS invests significant capital into R&D, much of which is centered on the question of how to provide better performance while using less energy. One answer has come through smart technologies that enable ASUS products to access maximum power when needed, but to throttle back power usage when less energy is required. With such technologies as the Super Hybrid Engine and the Energy Processing Unit implemented on ASUS notebooks, netbooks, motherboards and graphics cards, energy savings can be significant.
In addition to the obvious environmental advantages of using less energy, these technologies provide consumer benefits such as longer battery lives and lower total cost of ownership. For example, our UL Series of notebooks function up to 12 hours unplugged, while Eee PCs have achieved 14 hour battery lives.
Less energy usage means lower energy costs. For example the EPEAT Gold certified EeeBox uses only 35 Watts to 65 Watts of power depending on the model vs. 250 Watts for a traditional desktop PC. Heavy users switching from a desktop PC to an EeeBox can save up to $157 per year per PC.
Material Sourcing and Production
ASUS' Quality Management System complies with the International Standardization Organization's (ISO) and IECQ QC 080000 Hazardous Substance Process Management (HSPM) criteria. ASUS complies with all mandated restrictions of hazardous substances. Additionally, ASUS goes beyond legislated mandates such that, even without full scientific certainty about a substance's impact on the environment and human health, if there is a possible threat of harm, the substance will be phased out (if currently used) or will be not selected for use in ASUS products or in our manufacturing process. In sourcing materials, ASUS uses biodegradable materials to the extent possible in both our products and our packaging. We have also introduced innovative materials like bamboo into our notebook lineup to highlight our vision of truly sustainable solutions.
Product Recycling
By recycling, users ensure that the metals, plastics, and components found in old computers will be broken down and reused to make new products, and that the environment will be protected from any uncontrolled release of harmful chemicals. ASUS is working with Metech International Inc. to provide free recycling service to B2B and B2C customers for old ASUS products. Click here for more information.
Education
In 2009 ASUS participated in green-related seminars and events throughout the year, including events at UCLA, Berkley, and NYU.
Recognition
Today businesses of all sizes require products they purchase to have environmental certifications such as EPEAT certification or Energy Star certification. ASUS offers an expansive and growing lineup of products that meet these requirements. EPEAT certification is a strong advantage for ASUS resellers, because some top 10 notebook manufacturers offer no EPEAT-certified models in North America. The list of EPEAT-certified products is constantly being updated, but you will find current information on our price lists, on our commercial products website (commercial.asus.com), and on the EPEAT website: www.epeat.net.

ASUS products are also RoHS compliant, and ASUS is also the first company to receive the Carbon Footprint Certificate (PAS 2050) for a notebook from the Carbon Trust, the UK's leading authority on carbon reduction. In 2008 ASUS became the first company to receive the EU Flower and Czech Eco Label Awards for computers as well.
